Training your core - Calling all Gymnasts 3-Oct-2007 At 12:32:00 PM BadBrad of the Isles

I train on gymnastic rings once a week although most of the specific ab exercises can be done on a pull up bar. The following are the balls (no disrespect to anchorman intended).

Jackknife fly:
Grab the bar/ rigns and pull yourself straight upright so your in an L position with your back parralel to the ground and legs together pointing skyward. Alternately roll your legs/ body over so they are parallel with teh ground before bringing them back to pointing vertically on both left and tehn right sides. Try to keep your back as parallel with the ground as possible throughout.

The Clock:
Grab the bar/ rings in straight down hanging postion. Bring your legs up to an L sit position with legs parrallel to ground. Raise legs to 12 oclock position then back to eht L sit position. Repeat by going around the the clock to every number and then back to centre.

Flags:
Best done on a vertical climbing wall with a couple of well spaced jugs but rings and any upright pole can be susbstituted. Grab on with both hands push out horizontally as far as you can go. If too hard start with jsut pushing out with knees and then buildup to full leg extension.

Situps:
Thread legs trough the rigns or over the bar so back of knees are supporting your wieght and your hanging upside down. Crank out as many situps as you can. To make this one harder add weight or at top of situp hold the position and let your arms fall back behind you and resist this motion on the way down.

Cheers, Brad
