I really like the idea of going to an established crag WITHOUT a guidebook. Especially if you have never been there before.

a quick story...
Years ago, in the states, a friend and I did just that. Multi pitch crag with no guidebook. We would wander along picking climbs that LOOKED awesome and climb them. We started mid week so very few locals were there to help us along. When the w-end did come along and people started asking 'so what have you climbed?' We would bash out a desciption of the climb without a name and a 'guessed' grade. Made for great stories around the campfire. Guess which climb we did next?. I also went up two grades in my leading because I did not know the grade.
