My first ever lead fall was at Mt Piddington on Flaming Youth (23). The two greybeards that had taught me climbing were sieging the thing and as they rested I barge arsed my way in and had a bash. I passed the second bolt high point and fumbling in my chalk bag for my first ever bolt plate placement I managed to put it on upside down. It had carrot bolts in those days, much easier now!

I pulled a few more moves and went into the trad bumbly froze pose. Being pretty steep I only managed a few seconds before jumping off, paranoid about hitting something on the way down I jumped out pretty hard, which i learnt was stupid for a 20deg overhanging wall. It just meant I catapulted back into the wall on my return swing.
