Just competed with Jo King in a race the other day here - good to see her out kicking butt after her nightmare with cancer!!!

The last couple of posts by Fatboy's hit the nail on the noggin'. This is extremely unlikely to affect climbers due to the intensity and duration of what they are undertaking....

Caffeine has been shown to work in both short duration and in endurance events. When ingested in amounts around 3 - 6 mg per kg body weight has been shown to increase the release of free fatty acids into the blood stream and enhanve endurance performance. Coke is great for some caffeine and TONNES of sugar, but the problem with Coke is that it's carbonated - and carbonation has been shown to slow gastric emptying. Hence at most long distance races, it is de-fizzed. Even in the dosage mentioned above, Fatboy is correct - caffeine does not have the same diuretic effect.

It gives a great central nervouse system boost as well - hence taken by a certain pentathlete many years ago who got nailed for it. That's why the IOC has it on the banned list for high dosages!!!!!!!!
