I'm sure more experienced leaders would have more astute comments than me, but I would think there's probably a few issues with this.
One that comes to mind is that if you're really at your limit and you get the gear in but are having trouble hanging on to get the rope up and clipped, you can just let go of it, the belayer takes the slack and you can rest on two hands for a mo before trying again. If you're trying to take gear and rope up at once, have to let go, then your gear falls to the last piece of protection and things get even more difficult! |
