Marathon runners have a saying: prehydrate, don't dehydrate.
The Bushfire Bulletin No 25/01 has a useful check list:
* Dark yellow urine: highly dehydrated, drink immediately!
* Bright yellow urine: Still seriously dehydrated, have a drink, now!
* Yellow urine: moderately dehydrated, have a drink.
* Light yellow urine: almost there.
* Clear urine: Great job. But don't get dehydrated!
The Bushfire Bulletin says: drink at least 8-12 large glasses of water a day. For frontline firefighting, one litre of fluid should be taken every hour.
