I got income protection insurance 3 or 4 months ago when I decided to make a football comeback.

The insurer specialised in sporting type covers. It doesnt matter what im doing when I hurt myself, Climbing, football, car crashes (unless im drink driving) they will pay out.

Its not cheap though. Im paying $95 a month. They will pay out $2500 a month if I am injured and cant work. If I do something minor such that I can work (but not at 100%) say broken wrist (I work at a desk), they will pay out $1250.

I chose a 30 day excess (as I have about that much sick leave accrued).

To get a 0 day excess (i.e they start paying the day after the injury) to get $2500 a month I would need to pay $184 a month in fees.

If you want payouts of less than $2500 a month, you can get it and obviously the fees are correspondingly less.

I did no shopping around, the company I went with turned up at football training. So they may be cheap or expensive. If anyone wants info send me a pm and ill give you the company name / contact.
