there is a big proportion of guided groups on AD. there are a few unguided groups too.
did it with a friend from brisbane 5 days BC - summit - BC after acclimatising on island peak and another peak. there were just the two of us. no group logistics, no radios, no sherpas. lots of chocolate and donated beef jerky.
we just bought some permit places from another expedition so we didnt have to deal with liason officers etc etc. just had 2 porters for a month. they stayed in tea houses when we were climbing.
summitted from c2 in an 11 hour day. if you are moving well this is a good way to go because the more technical climbing is between 2 and 3 and light pack is nice. c3 is alot colder to and more dangerous as can be seen from last years avalanche.
recommend acclimatising first as i believe vanessa did too. no need to keep going over the terrain twice and clutter the camps and terrain unnecessarily.
that said- its quite technical and serious and inexperienced people should wait until they get experience or go with a guided group!
