Before you know it you will jump on the more technical stuff so go for the shorter ice axes and keep them both the same length, get some leashes as well, the Venoms look good and go for the reverse ice picks which will stick better to the ice.
Some people also suggest that in fact it is easier to self arrest with shorter tools.
For simple low risk walking a trekking pole for will also help.
