Hey G!
I haven't actually climbed in Tasmania, but went down there a few years ago and did some walking, including Frenchman's Cap, which has a couple of nice quartzite trad routes up the front. Here's a couple that look like they could be within your ability:
Thierry le Fronde (16) 147m
The Sydney Route (17) 380m
But be warned --- the walk in is horrendous!! (2 days) But I guess if you guys are up for a bit of an alpine adventure it could be worth it. Also, if you're down the south end of the overland track near Lake St Claire, maybe a day's walk in is Pine Valley Hut, however you could cut about 4 hours off the walk by taking the ferry across the lake instead of walking around it. There are a few big trad routes just a few hours walk away from there, in the Labyrinth area, Mt Geryon and the Acropolis. I think there's a lot of sport stuff near Hobart. Mountain Designs in Devonport (not far from where the Spirit lands) have guidebooks and advice.
Disclaimer: I haven't actually climbed at these areas (would love to though!), the trad routes are reputed to be long and committing, and the weather in Tassie is generally pretty shite... it even snows in December! |
