Well I'll get in before the thread gets derailed onto macca's role in the corruption of youth...

I've enjoyed my time at mumc - I've done some fantastic things, and met some wonderful, and wonderfully odd, people.

In terms of what the clubs have to offer, if you want to get involved in a range of activities, the uni clubs are hard to beat. Good gear available at cheap hire rates, and access to people, either directly or indirectly, who've done a lot of what there is to do. I can only speak for mumc, but VSU hasn't put us under any immediate financial pressure - we aren't going anywhere for some time yet. Hell, we were able to halve our non-student fee since some of the fees we were being charged disappeared.

I'll also second what mac said - if you join a club, make the effort to become known. There are so many faces, and it's hard trying to sort out who is actually interested from who just wants cheap guiding.

I'll also state the obvious - clubs are run by volunteers. If the kind of trips you want to go on aren't being run, talk to the relevant people and then run them yourself. AlanD's comments are also pretty spot on re: early on in semesters, and I suspect that's what happened to you Pei. Within a club, activities tend to wax and wane, and if you pick a "weak" activity at the start of the year, it probably comes across as a bit uninspiring...
