I'm not sure if I shouldn't touch this with a 20' poll and grab the popcorn instead. Oh well, I've been sufficiently entertained by the comments of others in the recent chalk and bolting threads ;)
Firstly, I wouldn't call them "horrible muscly goblins".
What makes everyone look different and arguable better looking on the wall is the muscle definition and the limb positioning and a few visual tricks. Beginners don't look as good on the wall because of the poorer climbing technique. However with improved technique the limbs are straight and stretched, toes pointed, muscles in an extended position etc, which make the limbs appear longer and sleeker, combined with a little bit of perspective visuals trickery, increasing the leg / body ratio (the legs increase in length to the body) and a because you don't climb square on, you twist your body, it reduces the visual width of the body. Suddenly you've a body which is visually more appealing. It's all a visual trick.
