My fiance and I just got back from Thailand and a lot of places are still recognisable, apart from some of the bars on Railey West that look different (I haven't been there for four years so my memory of the area is hazy). I also have the impression that there (and a lot of other coastal areas) they have built more expensive accommodation since the tsunami cleared out a lot of the crappier bungalows. This is not a bad thing I guess (in terms of locals making a living) and it's still overall a cheap place to visit. Didn't seem hugely more commercial but then we didn't go into Ao Nang. We did more diving this visit which in April is much more refreshing than sweating away on a wall and swatting mozzies away...
