Rock has had the same graphic designer in their employ for the last fifteen years. Remember those garish covers and badly chosen fluro typefaces from the early nineties? Same graphic designer.

It doesn't take a design professional to realise one could easily change this sad state of affairs:
1) The graphic designer needs a foot in the ass to get them to look around and see what else is happening in magazine design-land, and
2) Editorial management of the mag needs to loosen the f*&k up and let their designer implement some new ideas.

Of course, you talk to the Rock apologists and they site MONEY as the issue. But surely if Crux proves anything - or indeed the entire 'zine movement of the nineties - you can produce great looking work on a budget. It's about being relevant, not incumbent.

Sadly, I'm not saying anything new here.
