Anyone been climbing in Iran?

Anyone done any climbing in Iran? I'm going there from 23 April to the 13 May on a whim, and would be delighted to do some cragging. Nothing too hard core e.g. no big wall, new routing or routes over 22+, but would be interested in mountaineering if cold enough then.

Any information that anyone has would be appreciated.

Fairly sure there was a big writeup of some climbing in Iran in US Climbing mag about 2 years ago - perhaps try a search on their web site (www.climbing.com).

Might have that copy at home ..

Wasn't it about six years ago? Which, btw, is before things started going seriously sour again between Iran and the West.

Do you know your polite phrases in Persian Ado?

Here's a few to go on with:

Salom - Hello
Chetori - How are you?
Khubam merci - I'm well thankyou
Toe chetori - And how are you?
Esmeh man Ado - My name is Ado
Man a-leh New Zealand hastam - I'm from New Zealand (safer!)
Esmeh toe chiyeh - What's your name?
Havoe sardeh - the weather is cold
Havoe garmeh - the weather is hot
Kojah mischeh sang navardee kardh? - where can I go climbing?
Khodafez - Goodbye
Mi bi namet - See you later

Thanks for the suggestion gfdonc. I will check out that magazine - if you stumble across it and can pass on the issue/title details, that would be brilliant.

Billk, I am brushing up on my persian at the moment. This is what I know so far, which I hope will be sufficient for most situations - but, still looking for the phrases "take, take, take" and "slack". Any ideas?

Be jan khodam, nemidoonestam khahar koochaket bood - I swear on my life, I didn't know she was your little sister.

Kassi abjoh va goosht khook mel dareh? Anybody for pork and beer?

Oon yek khiareh dar jib shalvaret, ya faghad khoshhali keh man rah molaghat kardi?
Is that a cucumber in your pocket or are you just happy to have met me?

Vai, man az marz-eh darya-i-yeh keshvar shomah rad shodam ba yek kehsti-eh niroo defayi-eh Engilis? Che eshtebayeh khari!
Oh, I've crossed the sea border into your country with a British naval boat? What a stupid mistake!

You got all of my Persian yesterday. However, I'm keen to learn some the excellent sentences you provided above.

My colleague MoMo, who is a native speaker of Farsi and used to climb a bit, came up with the following:

Fixesh kon - (Lit: "fix it") take

Tanab bedeh - (Lit: "rope give me") slack

Seriously, the people in Iran will love you for having taken the time to learn some of their language.

Just one more:

Khahesh mee-konam - (lit: "I beg you") no worries

Or more precisely, whatcha say after someone thanks you.
