people borrow from clubs, why wouldn't they hire from shops?
I hired some stuff in thailand. rope was v. dodgy...but then so was half the fixed gear.
people climb with strangers, walk under objective dangers, get instruction from dodgy websites (not chockstone of course). Climbers weigh up risks and don't often let them get in the way of doing what they want. Not necessarily always good...but thats the personality type.
Other than overused ropes, I'd be most concerned about corrosion around pins and swages from coastal climbing. |
