Morgan, Most people here use 60m single ropes. The theory is that it allows you to climb sport routes between 25 and 30 m long, and lower off. Trouble is, there's virtually no sport routes between 25 and 30 m long at Mt Arapiles. Different matter if you go to New South Wales. My personal preference is for double 50s, because there's some pretty wandering routes at Arapiles. (And because I get frightened easily.) Also, there are some 40m + abseils, which you will want doubles for. Climbing gear is expensive here, so buy before you come. If you bring all the gear you need for Watchtower Crack, you'll definitely blow your baggage limit. James Mc Melbourne.
