First time I went there was due to not having the funds to go to N.Z. due to 6mnths on crutchs after ground fall, meant to stay 4 weeks, ended up staying for 10. Second time, 4 mnths. 3rd time 5mnths, 6 weeks work then back for 4mnths. After that couple of years overseas climbing, returned moved into a house and haven't really left since. People have survived out there (in the past, little easier when it was just state forest) for 12 mnth + stints. Not including the hermit. Sadly it does seem to be something that is lacking in todays climbing scene. Haven't seen or heard of any "real" full timers in years.
