kezza probably looked all sweet and innocent so didnt raise any suspicions.
sometimes they dont like ropes and biners.
if you are flying with virgin blue or virgin pacific, use the "its sporting goods" line.
ive never been charged excess with virgin and ive had alot of excess at times.
another tactic i used this year in nepal was. I'm carrying group gear and everyone has already checked in or gone over with much less than ther allowance.
Also had to use bribery in India once but that probabaly wont work going to NZ.
Rememeber. make your hand luggage LOOK small and light (but actually heavy). carry one of those green shopping bags on with any extra stuff. Girls carry handbags so why not.?
