The Wormhole Search Sport News
Grade 33 proposed in South AustraliaAdelaide-based climber Frederic Bonnet has established what is undoubtedly the hardest route in South Australia, and one of the hardest in the country. Located in 'The Hole' - a retired quarry 20 minutes from the CBD, this new line could also be labelled as one of the steepest, overhanging as it does some 12 metres out from its base (and it's only 16m long!) The line is typical for 'The Hole', being ultra steep, very sustained and very dynamic, with a variety of hold types ranging from pockets, underclings, crimps and pinches. Up until recently, the hardest creations have been from Sharik Walker with his 8 metre (roped) power-fest 'Come Out Fighting' (30) (still unrepeated and perhaps the hardest pure power route here), and Matt Adams' 7 metre equally bolted creation 'The Shining Path' (29/30), and the 9m 'Filipino Furburger' (30). Now adding to this list are Bonnet's routes 'Nirvaoxyne' at a proposed (32), a route which combines a V7 start into the crux's of Diplomatic Immunity (27), Stugang Extension (28) and Circus Street (25), finishing via a new 9m section of climbing out to the very lip. Next up was 'Dr Strike into the Wormhole Search' (30), again an extension to existing lines. 'Stugang and the Seven Draws' was an alternative start to Nirvaoxyne at 31, climbing Stugang Willich into the crux of its grade 28 extension - then finishing as for Nirvaoxyne. And now we have the mighty 'The Wormhole Search' (33), comprising a V7/8 start which then climbs straight into the crux's of an existing 27, 28, and 30 into a further 10m of sustained bouldery climbing.
