Not sure about pak n save but there's a 24hour supermarket in CHCH so you'll be able to shop somewhere. Walking out the Tasman Glacier once was enough for me. If wearing plastic boots try to manage moisture as my feet got damp and turned to prunes, which made the walk very painful. Ellie might be getting hard to get onto by then depending on the large crevasse situation at the bottom. The crux for us was getting around that, then the rest was reasonably staright forward. Might be worthwhile taking some rock shoes as there's some decent rock routes in that area as well.
