Differences of opinion. I thought AM was a brilliant route considering the particular STYLE (ie not a sport route therefore no loweroff or guaranteed safe climbing). I might be mistaken, but I remember a cam somewhere along the "unprotected slopey" traverse - which was actually quite juggy and fun IMHO.
As for retrieving gear, there is of course another option - your could finish the route as it was intended. It only took about 10 minutes to lead the 2nd pitch and set up a quick belay at the top.
Climbed it with H in the rain - quite memorable.
