umm umm umm ... I think there is nothing wrong with the odd bit of paid for tuition, can be usefull to kick start learning to lead, or covering some unusal aspects .. eg a bit of good technique advice early in your climbing life can put you on the right foot -- so to speak. Maybe that's more like reading a girly magazine than full on paid for pleasure, to extend your analogy :-)

Regards the Hermit - what has been said about him is correct - he took his own life (but not by jumping). Lets give him a little bit of privacy and don't worry about the details.
