The main reason for bent gates is easy clipping. Another advantage of a bent gate is that if the krab is oriented so the gate is toward the rock, it's less likely for a lump in the rock to push the gate open. If the krab is oriented this way, it's less likely for the rope to pop out. Some folk also orient the krab this way to prevent opening caused by inertia. JamesMc
