a) not sure if there really are more accidents, or we are just hearing about more, or there is some unintentional exaduration. eg .. someone mentions "an accident on pedro" then someone else confuses an easy grade 11 climb statring with p and says there is an accident on piccolo, then people start taling about "those acccidents on pedro and piccolo !! (not saying this has happend .. just an example..)

b) two factors which may explain more accidents if this is the case are:
1) more climbers in total - as some have said
2) more begginers with a gym background. I suspect this is a possible reason and is a dangerous sceanario .. beacuse to a ceratin extent I expeienced this .. you learn to climb grade 20 in the gym .. and want to lead similar grades outdoors. Back 10 years ago, that's not what happend. Ask HB or Reinhold how they learned to climb... Gym climbing is not a "saftey first" or a good way to learn to lead. Learn to place gear first, then learn to climb, is the safe order to do things in. The prescence of gyms enables people to reverse that order ..
