Having been involved with the running of comps in the past the $100 'penalty' seemed to get the point across that if you want in, you get your sh!t sorted and pay by the due date. People had plenty of warning to pay by the date, and it probably cuts back on those who rock up on the day to suss out the competitors in their field and then decide to enter based on the skill level. That can happen A LOT!
