I agree. I dont think I would bother climbing if there was no chance of getting hurt. Its a dangerous activity that you use your skills to reduce the risk to a level you deem acceptable.

I pretty much always wear a helmet these days, but I dont think ive ever told another climber they should wear one. Many climbers would take that the same way I would take being told that I should only climb sports routes with bolts every 2.5 metres... badly.

If your taking someone new to climbing outdoors, I'd suggest making them wear a helmet. Anyone experienced enough to be able to reasonably make their own judgement should be allowed to do so.
