Just wondering what the 'cause' is. I don't get a big patriotic glow when I wake up just knowing that there's a really hard climb in my country. I do get impressed seeing someone doing outrageously hard things at the crag though. But it's a different thing.
I think it's great that people are out there pushing themselves, chasing the numbers, though that's not why I climb. But I don't think anyone's holding back whatever the cause is. If there were a true groundswell of ticking machines just waiting to climb a grade 37, they'd be out there with their drills putting those new routes up. We should be happy when someone achieves their goals, whether it be leading the Bard or free soloing Ozymandias. But I won't lose sleep because no-one in my gym has put up a 36.
