THe gym I go to uses gri-gri for top roping with no "slow-goes" and a thin 10mm rope (well 10 or 10.5mm). I have always thought this a dangerous set up for beginners even though they are taught to use the gri-gri like a ATC device and never let go of rope. But its a time bomb waiting to go off in my opinion.
