i have to agree with neil. however this is yet another side of climbing that can be argued both ways very convincingly. im of the opinion that its human error, using a skinny rope when you know its not ideal is there own fault. i dont think the gri gri is designed to be difficult, it is just made to look difficult by most. i think the way petzl recommend to belay isnt the best method. as mentioned its hard to teach and even harder to master. the 'sum' is awesome. got to try it out at shipley and it rocked my world! easier to belay smoothly and safely however a smooth lower isnt as easy.
