You can do the states heaps cheaper if your prepared to slum it a bit. Buy your car out of an impound lot to start with. Don't have insurance or any other legal bullshit, highly illegal though. Be prepaired to play the dumb tourist and say you have all the documents but left them with friend in L.A. for safe keeping. I got pulled over 3 times and got away with it.

If your just climbing, no need to pay for accomodation. Sleep rough and avoid the cities. Spent 3 weeks abandon camping when climbing in the Valley, hard work but good fun, try sleeping in the meadow out the front of El Cap (seasonal dependent because of the length of grass). Not recommended if you do not have a healthy disrespect for authority! Had a few friends I had met climbing in other countries which helped in some areas, and they put me on to people in other areas.

Dumpster dining saves big bucks on the food bill, supermarkets throw out food generally a day before use by. Met some of the healthiest bums I've every seen in a dumpster out the back of Superdrug in Santa Barbara!

All up, the 3 of us spent approx. $600 - $800 U.S. each for 4 months of climbing and road trips.

Europe is a little more expensive, but still not to bad if your prepared to slum it as well.

If you can hook up with any full time climbers around the place they can stear you in the right direction of the ins and outs for scamming in each area/country.

If your prepaired to full time in this fashion you can turn $10 000 from 6 mths into years!!!
