Plans are progressing for the memorial for Karen McNeill in Canmore, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies. Her mountaineering sisters and friends are planning to have it within two to three days of the memorial for Sue Nott in Vail, Colorado. The best source for details on these important proceedings is on the Supertopos.com website. - Karen Nott, Sue's sister has posted a thankyou note there and has invited all to celebrate the life of her remarkable sister in Vail. Ian Parnell is flying over from England for the proceedings. If those that know either or both, cannot be in Vail , it would be good to send a few words such as may be appropriate for each person. "In the end, only kindness matters" (Jewel). Some kind thoughts to the affected partner and family would be most appropriate from the Aussie climbing community - because after all,
there are no boundaries in mountaineering and climbing - we are all on the rope together as we move along this route called life. I suspect Abby Watkins in Canmore will be pitching in appropriately but any and all additional support would be really good.
There will be a strong Kiwi contingent in Canmore - I stumbled into a den of them one evening in 2001- it was a raucous lot and I know Karen would have been right at home -
and I know they are pretty ripped at this unfortunate outcome. They will celebrate her life in their characteristic lively style and this is good. We, in that far flung chunk of frozen moose pasture called Canada are proud to consider her one of ours too!!! The light of the North Star will bathe her resting place on Mt. Foraker and remind us of the special person waiting for us all at the next belay station.
