I find it odd that people can actually say "we thought he was just about gone so we had to continue".!! The way I see it someone's either dead or not dead. If they're not quite dead yet you help them which surely means you rescue them. Sounds like those guys tried to help him with the aim of getting him to descend himself. Finding that he couldn't they thought they'd just leave him and continue on to their summit.

There's no honour in it at all but I quite agree with the analogy with what happens in society in general. We're quick to judge others actions but aren't most people on a serious mission to get money, new cars, real estate, technological toys at whatever cost? There's always someone nearby who needs help but how many people will actually GIVE UP their goals and all the things they've worked for to help someone else who is not coping/surviving? Like they did, we might give a small donation from time to time hoping that people will just get up and going themselves but give it all up? The cost is too high isn't it?
