To all the whingers

To take a quote from a well-known couch jumping individual, "Put your manners back in". Take a look at the size of the climbing community, and then count how many people actually get off their backsides to keep our sport exciting, ensuring new things are happening all the time. There ain't that many. Personally, I was really proud of all the Melbournites (and some NSW-ers who donated) that responded to the call for duty to help build Burnley so everyone else can enjoy it. One girl got so inspired by it all that she furthered her voluntary efforts by becoming a volunteer at the Children's Hospital. Awesome stuff. Be really careful about being trigger happy with your keyboards and your mouths. Catch one motivated individual on a bad day and your thoughtless negativity could be enough to make them think "bugger the lot of you – why do I bother putting in my time if that's the behaviour you’re going to display". From my own perspective, I've had to work really hard not to allow unsavoury individuals to affect my enthusiasm for keeping the Burnley Project going. On a bad day, it would not have taken much for me to chuck it in if I didn't repeatedly remind myself about all the good people that would benefit.

I guess next time you're wondering "why doesn't climbing have this", or whatever, perhaps the answer is "because of people with attitudes like you – the people that were in a position to make things happen got disheartened and gave up!"

That's all from me – now I'll put my own manners back in and go home and prepare the next round of holds to go up on the wall at Burnley.

To the guys with the energy to rebolt stuff or bolt new stuff – I appreciate your time. Thankyou for your tireless efforts – I don't know where you find the juice to bolt and climb all in one weekend, but our sport is better for it!
