Not exactly representative though. Most climbers tackle new routes for their own ends. Happily for the rest of the community they normally take some time to think about the impact of placing fixed pro and try to do a good job with future ascents in mind (not always of course). The fact that they even bother to write them up indicates some level of community awareness (not all attributable to ego).
I don't think you should get upset if someone criticizes a new route particularly when there are bolts involved. It is important to keep questioning the merits of new additions to the rock as they do impact us all. I don't think it is valid to point to previous bad practises and say that these justify current projects.
None of my comments relate directly to the project on Taipan since I haven't seen it.
