It is funny how top-roping is not regarded as a legit ascent. It is SO the answer to minimal impact climbing.
Hard on some things that are too steep and things on which the top is unaccessible. Can you TR this thing rhinkles?
How in the scheme of things is a manufactured slot any different to a bolt?
Well I find it hard to believe that the visual impact would be less than that of some small well spaced painted bolts.
Also if its not natural then why not have a peice of pro that will not need replacement.
Hang on, in granite you say. well unless it gets a great deal of traffic the placement really shouldn't change too much, if it does you just use a bigger peice.
This was done in spain about 15 years ago by a guy who made a special shaped nut to fit the slots he used. However his slots were drilled eg 12mm hole diagonally downward into the rock, then a about 6-8 mm hole diagonnally upward creating an open slot in which a nut prefferably his nuts were placed. Maybe there is a place for this sort of protection?????
