When to change out your gear |

Treat your gear well and if it looks dodgy or makes you nervous chuck it out.
Some of the planes flying around are 40+ years old and made out of the same materials as climbing hardware. So at least with the metal stuff, age has nothing to do with safety. The soft stuff (slings ropes etc) generally starts to fade or frey when its worn. They say that the number of pitches climbed by a rope is a very good indication of how much it has degraded. Having said that, if you like to take huge whippers everyweekend then all bets are off!
