Well, as a demonstration event - not officially an exhibition or demonstration sport within the Olympic framework. They're trying to catch the Committee's attention to the sport, I guess.
In fact, the UIAA met in Jan in Interlaken to discuss a long-term plan to include climbing at future olympics. Officially, climbing is already recognised by the Int. Olympic Committee (IOC) through the UIAA - and to be recognised, they have to conform with the Olympic Charter e.g. on how they hold their activities (as far as I know, the recent World Ice-climbing champs last Jan. were held under such rules, including anti-doping stance etc). |
