Yes Peak Charles is worth the trip if it's only 3 hrs from Kalgoorlie - the all-day drive from Perth was a bit much though!
I can't imagine it would be too pleasant in summer though. The surrounding bush is fairly low and scrubby so not much shade. An abundance of slab climbing, but yes there are steeper/harder bits too.
