My main concern would be that this development introduces wealthy foreigners to our wild places which can lead to them wanting a bit for themselves. They buy up farms and bushland and build their own tasteless monstrosities, turning rural regions into the wealthy persons play areas.
I've heard this sort of thing is happening in New Zealand - 'Lord of the Rings' has introduced the world to their wild landscapes and foreigners with too much money are going there and buying up, which has lead to access issues, such as beach access around coastal properties.
It doesn't matter how environmentally sensitive they are making the place, there will still be an environmental cost. There has to be an infrastructure, food and consumables trucked in, huge water usage, etc and all to cater for a significant number of people who have high expectations in terms of services. And it's right on the Wolgan River! They are building 5 vehicular and 2 foot bridges arcoss the river! And a helipad ("recreational flights are proposed" so says the concept plan), urgh!
Hey, maybe they'll introduce some "adventure" activities for the punters, and there will be absquealers all over Old Baldy (dropped on top by the helicopter of course), hee hee! |
