THIS IS THE CRUCIAL BIT! And you had fun, right? If not who cares if you ticked it or not....

To me, as far as free-climbing goes, I'd have to agree... put it this way, the rope is merely there to prevent a potential crater. If you didn't rest on it, fall on it, use it you wouldn't have cratered therefore you 'ticked' the climb. If you used the rope in any way you essentially 'virtually' cratered, therefore you did not tick the climb. But a good day spent working a climb and gaining ground on it can be just as rewarding...
Just to stir the pot a little... an onsight for me is a climb done clean with NO prior knowledge, no beta at all eg. 'oh, its a crimpy climb, and there's a rest half way' blows the onsight... what do you all think? BTW A friend taks this a step further and suggests a bolted route or a really chalked route cannot be onsighted as there are clues about the climb on the wall.... hmmm where does one draw the line? |
