I don't climb that hard so I usually onsite everything. If I don't like the look of the pro then I do something else.

Now and again I throw a rope over some hard stuff for some fun.

Everyone has their own ethics that they are comfortable with. I have seen climbers fall their way up stuff and claim it as an assent. I wouldn't be happy with that.

I get my satisfaction from turning up at the bottom, lead from the ground up and place the pro as needed. Of course that doesn't work when the climbs get really hard or badly protected, they have to be worked on.

Also I never expect to fall, but am prepared for the possibility. If you are confident with your placements and gear falling shouldn't stress you.
