I think you will find that we are not saying that climbing gyms are ESSENTIAL, but in terms of pure training (what you are talking about) the possibilitities are far better in a gym than - i quote:
"thrash around on all that pox"

Why would you bother going to some stinking choss pile to train when you could simply go to a gym. Gyms are not essential but they are the best thing to climb while you are in the city.

Tempest's achievements are phenomonal but look at many of the recent strong climbers (Monique Forestier, Sam Berry, James Kassay) and you will notice that they spent many hours training in gyms (not thrashing round on road cuttings!)

I have replied to this probable troll with the hope that someone such as yourself Simey who is so well recognised in the climbing community would be mature enough not to bother trolling.
