As someone who lives with a physio (my fiance) and as someone who has used physio for injuries ranging from sprained ankles, tweaked tendons and muscles as well as several broken bones. My advice would be this............
Every person is different. When seeking advice on time out of any sport through injury, the amount of down time will differ depending on the person, there ability to follow the physio's instructions, their patience, and that persons ability in general to recover from injury/illness.
Further to this, there are hundereds of small muscles in your body and each injury to a shoulder, ankle, knee, wrist etc will differ from person to person and from instance to instance depending on which of these muscle/tendons/bones have been injured and whether they are weightbearing/non weightbearing etc. (this of course will affect recovery time of a particular injury from person to person)
And finally, don't second guess the PROFESSIONAL who is treating you. If their advice seems blatantly wrong to you, get a second opinion from another qualified physio, not the bloke next door (unless he happens to be a physio).
Remember, if you cheat on the downtime of the original injury, the chances are you will get injured again and be out for much longer..
Cheers
P.S if you are in Metro Melbourne I would recomend talking to Alphington Sports Med Clinic, They do a lot of the V.I.S physio, they can put you on to someone who knows what they are talking about. |
