Climbing is good. And many people think of it while they are at work all day. But I wouldn't go choosing your career around it alone. Almost everyone spends more time working than climbing so make sure you choose a career that is rewarding in itself. Your climbing can easily be put to a quick end by an injury or some other thing. its probably a good idea to keep your climbing as your own personal recreation rather than doing it all day as a job. If you pick a career where each year you build on your past experience then it will grow and change into something more stimulating each year.
Having 5 years experience picking apples doesn't make it more complex, interesting or rewarding. Having 5 yrs exp as a teacher, engineer, scientist or musician probably leads to a career with different responsibilities depending on your experience level.

I work as an engineer. The first few years bored me to death. But its grown and changed and is now reasonably rewarding. Its not perfect but the grass is always greener. It pays well, lets me travel and if I give my company enough notice I have/can take months off to do what I want. Most places give you enough flexibility to leave early on a friday if you have met your committments.
If you are really into climbing you can hold down a full time job doing almost anything and still get plenty of time on the rock. Its all the other committments that get in the way.
I must say though, I've always been jealous of the public service flexi time thing! :)
