C'mon Hex! No-one is suggesting there is no 'honour' thing in Oz culture....just that the equivalent in other cultures in basically unfathomable to us. Sure...we live in a global village, but don't make the mistake of thinking we are all thus the same and think the same. That's the warped parochial basis of US foreign policy since WW2! Don't get me started on that one!!!!

Sure there are BIG problems in Oz. We could have a forum discussion on why one of the guys who introduced me to climbing killed himself or why my sister has had 3 attempts at doing the same. My point is I'm very aware of what the problems are here and aware of much of the pain and suffering associated with it. But global village or not, I cannot for the life of me see what pushes any family to pressure their kid to almost certain death on a mountain, or throws acid in the face of their daughter/sister because she looked at some guy! Totally unfathomable.

Oh well. Back to work now.
