To the guys in the UK, I'll say it for you: gritstone has, by far and away, the most amazing friction of any rock I've climbed on. :)
Booroomba granite is good frictional fun, but I haven't climbed any granite that isn't in/around the ACT, so I can't compare it with anywhere else.
The least frictiony rock I've ever climbed on was Reptile Smile, a 6a+ (I think?) at Portland in England. When it was first put up, it would have been smooth. Now it's like climbing on glass. Not one foothold felt secure, including the ones i could put my foot in up to the ankle.
That's closely followed by Ginninderra Falls rhyolite. |
