I was always of the impression that a gri gri and gear was a very bad idea due to excessive force generated by the sudden stopping action. As for "If it sometimes rips out some gear i think that is a small disadvantage." I couldn,t agree less, seems like this is a huge disadvantage especially if they are the top pieces (which you generally don,t have to loose to many before things are looking pretty grim!) They do however make an excellent ascender
