Does commercialisation make it easier for your average climber to undertake an 8000m expedition? of course, thats why we are there. How easy is it to organise an 8000m trip? not easy, find a team, organise a timeline, obtain permits, sidar, cook, porters, equipment, oxygen, medics, comms, organise with other teams to fix parts of the route, buy food, organise accomodation, organise the logistical side of the trip, etc etc it takes a lot of effort and a lot of time/money.
Is installing a ladder ethical? what is the difference in using a ladder to cross crevasse in the lower glacier? Will ithe installation of said ladder have any effect upon the number of climbers that head to everest in the scheme of things?, i doubt it.. will it have a large impact on the number of climbers reaching the summit, probably not, will it reduce congestion upon that part of the route? marginally.
what are we all bitching about here? i forget... we could just organise an all aussie 8000m trip to a diff 8k'er, i mean c'mon, there's 14 of em out there,, or why go 8k? whats the diff between 7 and 8? ego?, bragging rights?? |
