How many people carry their approach shoes up a multi-pitch so that they hike off in comfort? Or on routes where you don't want to leave anything at the base to return for. As in, hike in to base, climb up, hike out via a different way. That kind of thing.

Anyway, my point is, what system do you use? I've tried hiking in with Tevas (sandals), and clipping these to my harness. Light to climb with, but after too many stubbed toes I've vowed to avoid them. Clipping the hike boots to the harness means you're stuck with them swinging around. Putting the hike boots in a day pack means you're stuck with a day pack throwing off your balance and getting in the road on chimneys. Hauling just for boots? What a pain.

There has to be a better solution. What's everyone else doing?
